Missy Kelly, along with her husband, Matt, founded CatTongue Grips in 2017. CatTongue Grips sells anti-slip grips that can be used for anything from holding your mobile device to helping those with disabilities to even artwork. Missy graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder. In her spare time, she loves to ski. These are some of Missy Kelly’s favorite things.
Hannah: Thank you so much for being here today! First, I’m going to start off by asking you what your favorite guilty pleasure purchase is.
Missy: I love really good skincare products. So my current favorite is a brand called Alastin, and I’ve been really loving them. They’re on the pricey side, but my skin responds to them.
Hannah: [00:00:35] With the holidays coming up, what gift do you most like to give?
Missy: I received a Birthdate candle for my birthday back in September, and I absolutely love it. Each candle is made to order and it combines astrology, numerology and tarot for every date of the year. And it just smells divine. I keep it on my desk. I bought several as gifts this year for Christmas, though I do think they make an ideal birthday gift as well.
Hannah: That’s so cool! That’s a really unique gift. What gift do you most like to receive?
Missy: My favorite gifts aren’t luxurious or expensive, but show that thought went into the purchase. For instance, I received a TEAser box from Loose Leaf Tea Market. It’s so fun. Every month, I get a box full of tea. Different types of loose leaf tea and a sweet comes with it each month. I received this a couple of months ago and I look forward to the box every month.
Hannah: What items make it into your carry on when you travel?
Missy: I always have my essentials, which are my AG Stretch Cigarette Jeans. I love my Aviator Nation hoodie. I always have a black T-shirt, my Adidas sneakers, and a pair of flip flops if I am somewhere tropical. I always travel with my journal and several crystals as well as Palo Santo so I can freshen up the room when I get to a destination.
Hannah: [00:03:07] Very cool. What would you say is the best design product in your home or office?
Missy: Well, that’s pretty funny for me. I would think it’s my Lasko space heater where my office gets super cold. Being able to blow some heat and warm up my space is essential for my working well being.
Hannah: What are the items that are on top of your holiday wish list this year?
Missy: Well, I live in Park City, Utah, and I’m actually looking out the window right now as it’s snowing. And top of my list is a pair of Blizzard Black Pearl All Mountain Skis. I’m super excited. I bought them for myself for Christmas this year and I’m super excited to get out on the hill and try them out. I’m also excited about my Stio Puffy Jacket in Jade Green. I get excited for winter. It’s definitely the benefit of living in a ski town.
Hannah: What is your favorite fashion find?
Missy: I just love Aviator Nation. I live in their comfy sweats, especially during quarantine. I love my camo ninja hoodie by Aviator Nation. The brand is a little pricey, but it’s made in Southern California and it’s just the comfiest sweats and sweatshirts I’ve ever worn. And then, of course, I love my house slippers from UGG. They’re always on my feet, especially in this virtual world we’re living in now. They’re so soft and they have a hard bottom. So if I need to go outside and I don’t want to put on shoes, I wear those.
Hannah: What beauty products do you always try to keep in your purse?
Missy: I always keep lip gloss, and my favorite right now is Lawless Lip Gloss in Velvet.
Hannah: In the last year, what item did you discover was indispensable?
Missy: I love my Hydro Flask because this year, living in the mountains, we are able to spend a lot of time outdoors. So I always have my Hydro Flask, but it can be slippery. So I actually use a piece of my own product, the CatTongue non abrasive grip tape. A little piece on my slippery Hydro Flask makes it the perfect water bottle.
Hannah: Very cool. Is there a product that inspires you?
Missy: I love jewelry and gemstones designed by a woman named Katie Beckley. She founded Awaken the Peace. I love her manifesting gemstones. They help protect against all the negativity around us these days. She also supports animals, which is really important.
Hannah: Is there a brand that you most admire?
Missy: I love Spanx, which was founded by Sara Blakely, who is a female entrepreneur like myself. She is extremely inspiring to me. I love how she supports female entrepreneurs through her foundation. And I love that Spanx has evolved from a single undergarment brand to a fashion brand and continues to evolve with new products. She inspires me to keep evolving my brand. I love what she stands for.
Hannah: Is there a product or brand that you like that has a positive initiative?
Missy: I have to give a shoutout to my friends, Bryce and Gigi Goldman. They are co-founders of Kopari Beauty. They are great people and they’ve grown Kopari to an incredible company that does so much good in the world. They harvest their coconuts, as their brand centers around coconut oil. They harvest their coconuts from Indonesia, and they give back to the communities there. I personally can’t live without their natural deodorant. The coconut milk helps keep my skin from drying out. And I love what they’re doing and as they grow their company.
Hannah: Amazing. Those are all the questions for today. I had a great time speaking with you, and I can’t wait for our audience to see all of your recommendations!
